DTSF Crosswalks
BRIEF
Call for Art for three crosswalk designs for the intersection of S Phillips Ave & W 11th St. Designs were chosen by a panel of artists through a juried submission process.
Approved by the Visual Arts Commission and Active Transportation Board, this grant-funded project enhances pedestrian safety while celebrating what makes our community home.
CONCEPT
The themes that guided this project were community, belonging, and nature. As Cameron began considering the location and medium, he was drawn to the idea of rug designs: objects that ground a space and bring people together. Much like a rug anchors a room, these designs are anchored at this intersection and within the city as a place where everyone is welcome.
The final designs are inspired by the bold, familiar patterns one might find on a rug in their own living room, combined with Cameron’s graphic style. Each piece reflects elements of Sioux Falls’ natural landscape, including the river, the prairie, and the sun, as symbols of the place we all call home.
